Current Map of Eleven Oaks Elementary School

This map locates Eleven Oaks in relation to other streets in Fairfax. The image also shows the original site of the school.  Eleven Oaks was demolished in 2007 to make way for a property development.

The Fairfax Rosenwald School was torn down in 1952 and replaced by Eleven Oaks Elementary a year later.  The new structure faced the old Rosenwald School site.  Eleven Oaks officially opened on September 8, 1953. [1]

According to Jim Crow law, the elementary school had to serve Black students only.  The building had seven classrooms and a cafeteria.  The budgeted cost of construction was $223,647. [2] Eleven Oaks sat on 6.15 acres of land and held 215 students. The institution was closed on June 6, 1966 due to desegregation laws and converted in 1972 to offices accommodating the (Area IV) superintendent, staff, and supervisors. [3]

Eleven Oaks was demolished in 2008 to make room for a road, George Mason Boulevard, which runs through the school's former site.
