Land after Lloyd Washington

When Lloyd Washington died in 1896, his estate was left to his heirs: Hannah Washington, Harriet A. Hopkins, Sarah Johnston, and Martha Washington.

The 1897 Table of Tracts of Lands in Fairfax County, in Mount Vernon Magisterial District is the first tax record following Washington’s death in 1896. As Washington died without instating a will, and there was no current heir to put the tax upon, it appears within this tax record, that the charge of the land tax is going to the entirety of the Lloyd Washington Estate. This may be the debts that were hinted to be paid off in the chancery case analyzed before. This record has the Washington Estate as the chargee on 2 different lines, for 2 different tracts of land. The first portion of land that is listed is the exact amount being charged Lloyd Washington in the 1894 tax records. The second portion of land is 10 acres that were part of the land given to Smith Johnston in the 1892 deed between him and Lloyd Washington. The first portion is likely to be the land that is to directed to Harriet A. Hopkins through the Chancery Records and later distributed between herself, her mother, and her two sisters in 1899 through their own deed.
