Mary E Brooks Further Research

The erasure of African American history happens in many different ways. It isn’t just the omission of events or important figures in textbooks, it is also the underrepresentation of African Americans. This silence is blatant when looking for information on Mary E Brooks online. There is a lack of census information about her, and her children. There needs to be further research online about Mary E Brooks. This research would include finding census information about her and her children. Her birth date and death date were not found. This information could help pinpoint her grave. Another key piece of information would be her husband. She had three sons, but a husband was not mentioned in any of the deeds. This information was not found on HeritageQuestOnline.com, and AncestryHertiageQuest.com, there maybe another website that contains information about her.

Another direction for further research would be looking into the other 10 lots under Mary’s name. Finding ownership up until the present day could help locate more of her land. Lot #1 was not located past the year 1965. This lot was sold to Wayman W Gamble in 1941. Gamble sold the lot to Evelyn E. Long on October 31st, 1960. Long sold the land Land Market Corporation on April 30th, 1965. Finding ownership of the lot after it was sold to a corporation was incredibly difficult, especially with the records available from 1965. Since these records were before the 1980s there were no tax maps available, Lot #1 needs to be tracked further in order to get mapped land.
