William Holland's Family

William Holland 1880 Census

1880 Census from Mount Vernon, Fairfax, Virginia

William Holland was married to Lucy Holland and had two children together, William W. Holland and Maria Holland. Maria went onto marry Andrew Jackson, a blacksmith in the Mount Vernon area. William W. Holland married Elizabeth Holland, and six children together: Charles, Frank W., Cornelius, Etta, Essie, and Bejamin Holland. This information was found in the 1880 United States federal census through research on the Ancestry DNA website. On the census, only William, Elizabeth, and Charles are shown. This is because when the census was taken, the other Holland children had not been born yet.

After the birth of Charles Holland and his siblings, it became difficult to track the continuous lineage of the Holland family. There were many gaps in the research as those in the family did not document everything, and that the information on the 1894 land tax records was listed under the estate of William Holland rather than the names of the individual family members.

William W. Holland Gravestone

Gravestone of William and Elizabeth Holland, located in Woodlawn United Methodist Church Cemetery, Find a Grave Database, 2006

The rest of the family could not be located on paper until June of 1920. The Hollands appeared in the transfer of land for the Woodlawn area. In this document, attached in the next section, William W. and Elizabeth Holland signed the deed containing eight acres. Four years later, Elizabeth Holland passed away and was buried in the Woodlawn United Methodist Church Cemetery. William W. passed away in 1941 and shares a headstone with his wife. The children that appeared in land tax records most often, Charles and Cornelius, do not appear to have any children of their own. However, it is entirely possible that the ancestry website and headstone websites respectively did not yet have those records.
