Abstract
An article written about historian Matthew Gallagher and his argument that the George Mason memorial being created by the Fairfax County Bicentennial Commission should be placed on the George Mason campus-- this memorial would later become the memorial in D.C. His primary argument is that a statue of George Mason is an important education tool because most students are unaware of the accomplishments of Mason and that the university risks becoming a generically named school "Northern Virginia State University."
