Title
The 1619 Project
Description
The 1619 Project repositions the consequences of the institution of slavery and the role Black Americans played in the founding and history of the United States. One of Jones's main arguments is that American colonists fought in the Revolutionary War to preserve slavery in the colonies. The full issue includes ten essays, a photo essay, and a collection of poems and fiction. These materials discuss capitalism; Black music; housing and redlining; politics; healthcare; the prison system; sugar; the racial wealth gap; and more.
