Dispossessed Lives: Enslaved Women, Violence, and the Archive is a book by Marisa Fuentes that reviews how to make an alternative narrative outside of a traditional narrative
Winne Walker Spencer attended Laurel Grove School from grades one through seven starting in 1914. She went on to teach in segregated schools in Fairfax County including Gum Springs, Woodlawn, and Odrick's Corner to name a few. She had close bonds with her students, as one can see in this image, and she retired from teaching in the Fairfax County School System in 1958.
The cemetery directly behind the Baptist Church site is the final resting place of many of the community's founding families, including long-time congregants. The Metro Park office buildings are in view behind this cemetery.
