Foote Family Sells 7 Corners Tract for $750,000, 1953
-
Description
-
Washington Post news article about the Lynne Investment Corp.'s land purchase from descendants of Frederick Foote, Sr. , a prominent early Black citizen of Falls Church. In 1864, Foote acquired his first 28 acres which, with the addition of 11 more, now serves as the site of Eden Center, the Seven Corners Shopping Center and nearby businesses. The family's ability to remain on (or retain control of) Foote's legacy even as Fairfax demographics tilted white positioned them to reap a rare Black-directed windfall of Fairfax's mid-century development boom.
